Trip 4 Day 2 (November 10): Tiryns, Argive Heraion, Dendra, Midea, Merbaka

At Tiryns, Aaron gave his report on the Mycenaean mega-structures.

We next heard Stephanie's report at the Argive Heraion on the south slope of Mt. Euboea.

While exploring the site, I came upon this statue base with an inscription on it.

Our next stop was at Dendra to see the tholos tombs.

After lunch we climbed up to the top of the acropolis of Midea, once a site of a Bronze Age citadel.

The last stop of the day was at Merbaka where Charles gave his report the Church of the Dormition, built in the 12th or 13th century.

We also had a look at a nearby building. Though fairly modern, its dilapidation is helpful in understanding what happens to buildings (even ancient ones) over time.
