Trip 2 Day 5 (October 10): Gortyna, Megalopolis, Mt. Lykaion

The day started rainy at Gortyna (also known as Gortys and Gortyn). Allie gave her report on the bath complex there and Jack acted as a human pointer, walking through the various rooms as she described them.

On our way to Megalopolis, we stopped to look at a beautiful old bridge (Frankish in origin, rebuilt in the 15th century, modifications in the 19th century) which had a little church built into it.

At Megalopolis, Charles told us about the agora which used to be there. There's not much there now, though you can see an industrial plant in the distance.

After Charles' report, Jack took us over to the theater to have a look though we couldn't get in because the gates were locked. I took this picture through gaps in the fence.

I think our last stop of the day was at Mt. Lykaion. The roads leading up to the site were sometimes single-lane and very twisty but afforded beautiful views!  The site, too, had beautiful views.

We stayed the night in Pylos. The usual hotel the School uses was under renovation so we had to stay some place that was right on the beach. Poor us. :)
