Trip 3 Day 3 (October 26): Delphi

We started where we left off yesterday, at the temple of Apollo.

Leigh told us a bit about colonization and we had a look at the pillar of Prusias of Bithynia.

We continued up to the theater,

and then to the stadium. Sadly, because of the risk of rock falls, we weren't allowed inside.

After lunch we were back inside the museum where I continued my report on the sculpture from the temple of Apollo which is pretty fragmentary.

Simon then gave his report on a series of statues the make up the Daochos monument.

We then had a look at the Acanthus column,

the omphalos stone (navel of the earth),

and a statue of Antinuous, the emperor Hadrian's lover who died young.

Then, in a room all to himself, we came upon the Delphi Charioteer. His horses are mostly gone, but he (including his teeth!!!!) remain.

Leigh finished her report and then we had free time in the museum.

Bust of Plotinus or Plutarch (!!)
