Day 2 in beautiful Delphi!
We started the morning at the gymnasium which is across the street from the sanctuary of Apollo,
and then walked over to the sanctuary of Athena Pronaia which contains a row of temple buildings, the most notable of which is the tholos or round building.
We had special permission to go inside to investigate the building's blocks more closely. It was pretty darn exciting!
After lunch we took the bus to Mt. Parnassus where we got out to hike up to the Corycian Cave, home of other oracles, and where Stephanie gave her report. The hike up was steep but beautiful.
When we got to the cave, there was a surprise waiting for us inside. Someone had arranged candles throughout the cave and on the floor had written out "Happy birthday" in Greek with them. It seemed fitting since my birthday was a few days later.

Then it was back over across the street to the sanctuary of Apollo. We had a look at the stoa of the Athenians and some inscriptions before heading up the hill to the temple of Apollo so I could do my report on the oracle of Delphi and the temple of Apollo and then Max gave his report on the geology of Delphi and current ideas about the Pythian vapors.

The view from the cave was lovely and many of us opted to hike down the mountain all the way back to Delphi.
We got back to down a little bit after sunset, just in time to get some dinner.
