We started the day with a hike up to Acrocorinth, a citadel atop a very tall rock overlooking the city of Corinth. The acropolis had been occupied continuously from the Archaic period to the 19th century. It was very, very windy.
After we hiked back down to town, we had lunch at the warm and cozy Corinth dig house, which was quite a relief after being out in the wind all morning.
We returned to the wind for a bit to investigate the Corinth site.
Then it was back to the dig house to hear Nancy Bookidis tell us about the sanctuary of Demeter and Kore found on the slopes of Acrocorinth. After Nancy, Heather talked to us about ceramic petrography, which looks at the rock content of ceramics to discern things like where the clay came from and what was mixed in it.
