Trip 1 Day 8 (September 27): Olynthus, Stageira

We were supposed to get to see the Temple of Zeus Ammon but were unable to because of the guard strikes which was extremely disappointing. Good thing the next site, Olynthus, was so awesome. Olynthus is famous for its Classical period houses and it's where I gave my report!

We also heard from Margie about the Chalkidian League (a confederation of Greek city-states, including Olynthus, in the Chalcidian region of Greece destroyed by Philip II).

Our next stop, I think, was Stageira, the (supposed) birthplace of Aristotle. We sat in the stoa on benches upon which Aristotle himself may have once sat!

We hiked around having a look at the beautiful views,

followed part of the ancient wall,

climbed on top of the wall,

investigated some temple and sanctuary ruins,

some house ruins,

then got back on the bus for the short ride to our hotel for an early end-of-day, where we enjoyed complimentary drinks on the beach.
